VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL)--Valdosta Mayor John Gayle is visiting sixth grade students at J.L. Newbern Tuesday to get them excited about the annual "If I Were Mayor, I Would" essay contest.
Students in public, private, or home schools are encouraged to participate.
The contest asks students to use language arts skills and civics knowledge to write an essay on how they would make a difference as mayor.
The deadline is March 6, and the entries must be 350 words or less.
