TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - It's almost tax-time and if your tax burden is usually high you may get a small break this year.

If you have damage from Hurricane Michael you can deduct that damage from your 2018 taxes or file an amended 2017 return.

The child tax credit has also doubled from $1,000 to $2,000 dollars per qualifying child.

The tax rate will also decrease across the board thanks to the Jobs Act and Tax Cuts.

"This year is going to be a big year because it's the largest tax change and tax decrease since Reagan, so all of the tax forms are changing its going to be a big change in the tax preparation industry so if you file your own taxes make sure you give your self plenty of time," said Shawn Wesley with Northside Tax service.

The deadline to file taxes is April 15.
