TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Tuesday night, the Florida State softball team made history beating Washington to win their first ever NCAA National Championship.
The title, was also the ACC's first and Wednesday, the National Champs returned to Tallahassee and for this team, who went from Team I-Don't-Know, to winning it all, the feeling is still hard to describe.
"I said it all week and I'll keep saying it. This team is something special and we fought and we fought and we fought and we didn't stop fighting and I am so proud of Team 35 and all we have accomplished this season," said Jessie Warren.
That fun, that comfort, has Florida State among the elite. The first team from the ACC, and just the third team from east of the Mississippi, to win a National Championship.
"It's still a surreal feeling, but I mean, just the support out here today has been absolutely incredible," said Meghan King.
With thousands watching, and hundreds more showing up to welcome them home, the players were even more nervous stepping off the plane.
"I said on the plane I think I'm more nervous to step off the plane then I was in the game. There's so many people here and it's so cool the fans that we have and all the support that we have for Florida State," said Warren. "We're so thankful for everyone that supports us."
If you missed Wednesday's celebration and still want to celebrate with the National Champs, you still can.
Friday, at 3:30 p.m. at Langford Green at Florida State, the Seminoles will light the spear at the unconquered statue to celebrate their National title.
