TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- Hundreds gathered Friday to remember a Rickards High School student who was killed Monday in a hit-and-run accident.
17-year-old Tyriq Roberts was set to graduate in 2017. Classmates, friends and community members filled the basketball court at Jack McLean Park.
People shared memories of him, offered prayers and wore t-shirts with his name and face.
Roberts' family wasn't at the event, but a spokeswoman thanked the crowd for supporting them in this difficult time.
"To see so many young people come out and have the love for a young man -- that is so vibrant and so full of love and joy and happiness himself -- and we can see, it speaks for him," said family spokeswoman Sallie Smith. "Showing all of the love everyone has out here for him, it speaks. It tells a story of a loving young man."
Police didn't initially charge the man behind the wheel that killed Roberts. The prime suspect was hospitalized following the crash. A woman was arrested Monday for tampering with evidence.
In addition to the memorial Friday, there was also a family viewing.
Roberts' funeral will be held at the Old West Florida Enrichment Center Saturday at 11 a.m.
