TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A first-year student at FAMU is getting to know fellow Rattlers in a special way.

You may have heard about the "Humans of New York" project. People get their photos taken and they're posted to social media with an interesting story behind the picture.

Maya Lee started the "Humans of FAMU" project a few months ago. So far, she's interviewed 10 students.

Instead of taking their photos, she shoots videos of them with her cell phone.

Lee said students have shared stories of their connection to FAMU, as well as other stories that have shaped who they are.

"My goal is to bring FAMU a little closer. I showed my friends some videos, and they're like, 'Wow, I can relate to that,'" said Lee. "So, that's the point I want to get out to people, so they can know that they're not alone going through something -- and that they can see other people going through the same thing and how they cope with theirs. If they would like, they can meet up and become friends."

Lee says she's working on posting the student profiles online.

The next one will be featured Sunday on the "Humans of FAMU" social media pages.
