(WTXL) - One week ago a prescribed fire in Franklin County that got out of control destroyed dozens of homes, charred hundreds of acres of land, and left many with nothing.
At last check, none of the victim's who lost their homes have permanent places to live - with many of those families living in hotels or in shelters or with loved ones.
But we are learning there may be another option.
WTXL ABC's Jada Williams is live with that part of the story.
Sometime Monday, the county will lend 3 - 4, 5th wheel donated trailers to people for temporary housing.
County commissioners and state officials will also meet Monday to discuss other sources of funding.
The sheriff says county officials at the Eastpoint Fire House will be issuing permits to allow residents to clean up their lots.
The county is working with private contractors who are willing to clear the affected lots and remove the debris at no cost to the property owners. Before any of these contractors can gain access to these lots, a County demolition/debris removal permit is required along with the property owner's signature on a Hold Harmless agreement.
Anyone looking to sign up is asked to visit the Eastpoint FIre House Monday or Tuesday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
CFO Jimmy Patronis' office says they have processed many claims for emergency funding to provide temporary housing. Those funds are expected to be dispersed by the first of the week. Funds for those with insurance will also go out this week.
