ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia public schools may soon undergo an overhaul aimed at teacher evaluations and standardized testing.
The House of Representatives approved a bill on Tuesday that would makes changes to how teachers around the state are scored.
The bill also would lower the number of standardized tests taken by public school students and move test-taking windows to the end of the school year.
Education groups around the state have voiced their support for the bill, citing the current state scoring system that is viewed as rigorous and detrimental for student growth.
Republican Rep. Randy Nix of LaGrange says the bill doesn't dismantle the state's current teacher evaluation system, but does address concerns brought to the legislature by educators.
The bill returns to the state Senate.
