JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - The Jackson County Sheriff's Office is investigating after an apparent domestic violence incident lead to a house fire.
Steven Baxter, 38, was arrested by JCSO on Wednesday.
On June 13, JCSO received a call from the State Fire Marshall's Officer to send a deputy to their location.
The SFM officer was on the scene of a residential house fire in the Malone area. When deputies arrived, a SFM officer told deputies they suspected domestic violence happened in the home prior to the fire.
During the course of the investigation, deputies observed injuries that would be consistent with that of domestic violence.
Based on the evidence, Baxter is being charged with battery (domestic violence) and was transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility awaiting his first appearance.
Deputies also learned that Baxter was on state probation for a separate previous offense.
JCSO says further charges are pending upon the completion of the State Fire Marshall Officer's investigation.
