ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — All Children's Hospital Johns Hopkins Medicine is moving forward with plans to construct a research and education building in St. Petersburg.
Jonathan Ellen, the hospital's CEO, tells the Tampa Bay Times (http://bit.ly/21omevb) the new building will cost an estimated $85 million and will house a 250-seat auditorium as well as state-of-the-art labs and simulation space.
The building will be built across the street from the All Children's Hospital and west of University of South Florida's research building.
Hospital leaders held a ceremonial groundbreaking for the building last week and plan to start construction next week.
The facility is expected to create 30 jobs for researchers and educators and will open in 2018.
