WASHINGTON, D.C. (WTXL) - A new federal rule requiring all hospitals to post a master list of prices for the services they provide online goes into effect on Jan. 1.
According to Journal-News, the new federal rule requires all hospitals to post a master list of prices online so consumers can review them.
The rule aims to give patients better information about the out-of-pocket costs they may face and encourage transparency from providers.
However, patient advocates tell Journal-News the hospital's master list will not be accurate because the final bill a patient receives is almost never the same as the initial price for the services if you take co-pays, co-insurance, and deductibles into account.
