TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - As people along the Atlantic coast of Florida are preparing for Hurricane Matthew, so are horse owners.
Some farms in the Big Bend like Iron Star Equestrian in Havana, are leaving their stalls open for horses who need to evacuate.
Trainers Sarah Mackusick said the equine community has come together and that Facebook is full of posts with people offering to help in all sorts of ways, including hauling horses away from the coast. Mackusick said she had room for a few horses at her farm.
She said, "I'm not charging anyone anything. Bring your own feed and hay I'm happy to take in people and help them out. I'm happy to help out. I know it can be kind of scary when a hurricane this size is coming towards you."
