TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - One of Florida's top regulators is being ordered to stay away from his office due to the discovery of pounds of bat guano above his desk.
Inspectors say that they found 10 pounds of bat feces this week in the area right above the ceiling of the office of Ken Lawson. Lawson is secretary of the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. They have told Lawson that no one should enter his office until the feces is removed.
State legislators in the new state budget ordered that state workers leave the Tallahassee offices where the department is housed. The new budget says that no money can be spent on lease payments for the offices. But that provision does not take effect until this summer.
The bat guano was discovered on Thursday.
