LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Leon County will be opening five emergency shelters Tuesday at noon in the following locations:

  • Lincoln High School
  • Chiles High School
  • SAIL High School
  • Fort Braden Elementary school
  • Godby High School

Kevin Peter, the Leon County Emergency Management Director, says those seeking shelter should bring all of their essentials with them to the shelters, such as an air mattress, clothing, and medications.

If you do have a prior crime on your record, for example a sex offender, there are some steps you must take before heading to a shelter.

"If you have some type of reporting requirement to a law enforcement agency or probation officer of some previous crime or record, you definitely need to check in with your probation officer or the sheriffs office to help understand where you can go for assistance," said Peter.

Peters says, if needed, the county may open up more shelters.
