TALLAHASSEE, FL -- The holidays are a great time for coming together and bringing joy, but with the season could come stress and that can sometimes be a hard time for teens.
Whether it be an overload of homework assignments, the stress of gift giving or possibly changing family dynamics, the holiday season can be stressful. Family Therapist Jane Marks offers a few tips to help minimize the stress and help bring back the holiday spirit.
1. Allow your teens to sleep in. Jane says this is very important during the holidays.
2. Keep an eye on the fact that there is almost likely going to be an episode with the family where someone gets upset. Talk about it ahead of schedule ways of dealing with Negative Nellies and Neds in your life, because it's going to happen.
3. Have your teen involve their tech skills. Nothing makes a teen feel more empowered than you deferring to their musical expertise. While you love your old CD's and throwback songs, allow them to create the first playlist and start the holiday season with their choices.
