TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Leon County has the third highest rate of food insecurity in the entire state of Florida. The 34th class of Leadership Tallahassee is making efforts to change that.
Leadership Tallahassee is a program that prepares members for community leadership. Each class develops a community initiative, with this most recent class creating Help Shelf food pantries.
The pantries will be placed throughout the area. They will contain donated non-perishable foods and personal care items for anyone to use.
"We decided this would be a good project for our community," said Kevin Forsthoefel, one of the class members. "We also think the concept is something that brings the community together. Something that everyone or anyone can be involved in and anyone can take advantage of it. There's no red tape if you need food come and get it; if you have some extra to give you can give it. It's really easy and convenient.
Group members say the food pantries can hold up to five bags of groceries. If you want more information or if you want to help out, click here.
