TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- February is Heart Month, and all month long on WTXL Sunrise, we're talking about the important things you need to know.
Dr. Niraj Pandit from Capital Regional Medical Center joined us to explain what exactly happens when you go to the cardiology office.
Usually, a patient is recommended to a cardiologist from a family physician. Since this is a new doctor for you, Dr. Pandit says there are some things you should bring with you. That includes any medications you're taking, medical records you have, and any notes about your health or family history.
Once you're at the office, you'll have non-invasive tests, including a blood pressure test or EKG.
From that, a cardiologist may recommend more specific tests, like an echo-cardiogram, ultrasound or stress test.
Dr. Pandit says you should think of your appointment as a conversation. Your cardiologist is getting to know you and vice versa, so be sure to share anything you can about previous conditions.
