TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - CareerSource Capital Region says the unemployment rate in Leon County for September was at 3.2 percent.
If you look at sectors like healthcare and information technology, that's where the job market is booming. A lot of jobs and a lot of demand as we saw this afternoon at the Leon Works Expo.
This was the third annual event. Organizers say it just keeps growing, with more than 100 groups representing all types of industries.
WTXL caught up with Syn-Tech Systems, a leading local company in fuel management. They say they're always looking for local talent to join a rapidly growing career field.
"We are seeking computer science, IT people constantly, and with FSU and FAMU here, it's a great source for us to get great qualified candidates," said Gina Reeves, a talent acquisition manager with the company. "We actually have an internship program, and it's been awesome, because we bring in students and give them real life experience that they can take with them or stay with us. It's really a win-win situation."
The expo targeted "skilled careers" that require more training than a high school diploma but less than a four-year college degree.
The county expects more than 26,000 skilled jobs over the next seven years in the region.
