October brings with it many things -- the first cool snap of the year, pumpkin patches and playoff baseball among them -- but its designation as Breast Cancer Awareness Month is surely one of the most conspicuous. Everyone from politicians, actors and journalists to pro sports teams and private businesses make it a point to draw attention to breast cancer, which means you can expect to see quite a bit of pink over the next few weeks.
Locally, there are events like Making Strides, which aims to be a "celebration of survivorship," and a blood drive put on by Suncoast Blood Bank. There's even a plan afoot to form a world-record shattering human breast cancer ribbon. Talk about an attention-grabber.
All month long, ABC 7 will be covering the issues, people and events associated with breast cancer awareness. Together we can all make a difference, save lives and turn a once-dreaded disease into a relic of the past.
