TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Florida Department of Health in Leon County (FDOH-Leon) is reminding people to protect themselves against mosquito-borne diseases because the pests are still active through late summer and early fall.
According to spokesperson Page Jolly, the agency's precautions have been changed slightly to drop the "dawn to dusk" warning about high mosquito-biting times, as we now have disease-carrying day biters, not just dawn and dusk mosquitoes as in the past.
FDOH-Leon is also offering the following tips:
1. DRAIN standing water to stop mosquitoes from multiplying
2. COVER skin with clothing or repellent
3. COVER doors and windows with screens to keep mosquitoes out of your house.
