TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)--Pharmacies are already offering flu shots even though flu season doesn't start until October.
The Florida Department of Health says it's good idea to get it early so you're protected for the start of the season that runs through May.
Spokesperson Chris Tittel says the vaccine doesn't instantly work. It takes two weeks to kick in.
Other ways to prevent the flu include washing your hands, eating well, drinking a lot of water, and exercising.
