TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Florida Department of Health in Leon County wanted women in the area to be proactive and get screened.

The health department encouraged women to join the Florida Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program. The program offers screenings for women ages 50 to 64 with low or no income and no health insurance.

The program locally serves 5 counties: Leon, Jefferson, Wakulla, Madison and Taylor counties.

They also said that citizens can help raise awareness with free "Go Pink" yard signs available for pick up during the weekday from 10 a.m to 1 p.m. at 1308 Hodges Drive.
