TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- In Leon County, people can safely get rid of unwanted electronics and cleaning items.

Hazardous Waste Management will be at the Public Works Center the first Saturday of every month until May.

Hazardous Waste Manager, Dr. Richard Lobinske, says there's a big demand for collection.

He says there were nearly 150 cars lined up first thing Saturday morning.

"This keeps it out of our municipal waste stream and it also helps to protect our solid waste workers," said Dr. Lobinske. "Chemicals can react anywhere in the line from trash processing, to your curbside garbage can, to a truck, to the transfer station tipping floor."

This collection isn't just helping our environment, it's also a safety precaution for waste management workers.
