TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Havana man has been arrested, accused of stealing an antique car from a Tallahassee home and selling it to a junkyard for $150.
According to court documents, Austin Clay Brackin was arrested by Gadsden County deputies on Monday.
Documents say the Leon County Sheriff's Office was alerted about the stolen vehicle on Feb. 23. The owner said that when she returned to her home in the 2900 block of Livingston Road that night, her antique, light blue 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air was gone from her yard.
The owner told police that she posted pictures of the car on Facebook in an attempt to find the vehicle.
The tactic worked, and she was soon contacted by a friend who said he saw the car at a junkyard across the street from Pic n Pull on Woodville Highway.
When the car owner spoke with the owner of the business the next day, he showed the victim where her vehicle was and told her that he had bought it from 'Clay Brackin' the night before.
The car matched the description of the missing vehicle, with "Heavy Chevy" and flames etched into the front windshield and skulls with Confederate flags etched into the rear door windows.
The business owner said that due to the condition of the car, he paid Brackin $150 for it.
He told investigators he knew Brackin well because he had bought vehicles from him in the past. The owner said Brackin contacted him the day prior and offered to sell him several vehicles but only ended up selling him one.
After being picked out of a photo lineup by a witness on March 5, a warrant was issued for Brackin's arrest on Friday.
