HAMILTON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - School officials in Hamilton County have approved two furlough days in May as part of their fiscal recovery plan.
Hamilton County Schools said that the furlough days have become necessary to help the school system work through a major budge issues. They said that these changes are needed to help the district continue to provide educational services while maintaining a positive financial position.
As a step to ensure that the Hamilton County School District returns to a fiscally sound position, the school board has approved two furlough days in the 2016-17 school year.
The Board approved the following dates for the furlough days:
o Monday, May 8, 2017
o Monday, May 15, 2017
The days are a part of a fiscal recovery plan that has been submitted to the Commissioner of Education to assist in returning the school district to a fund balance of 3% or more as required by statute.
Students, school-based employees, and district level staff will not report on these days. All schools and departments will be closed.
