Gwinnett Deputy Arrested, Charged with Child Molestation

Posted

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) - A Gwinnett County Sheriff's deputy has been arrested, accused of child molestation.

Authorities said Gwinnett County police obtained a warrant Wednesday charging 31-year-old Michael Lomax with aggravated child molestation by sodomy. Bond information and whether Lomax has an attorney who could speak on his behalf was not immediately available.

WSB-TV (http://2wsb.tv/2fx4vmU ) reports investigators said the victim is a 13-year-old who Lomax met using a social media application. The victim's mother reported the incident to police.

Lomax was a jailer for the sheriff's office for two years. He resigned when he got to the jail.

Sheriff Butch Conway says he's disappointed by Lomax's alleged actions but he's also alarmed that minors can access such apps to meet strangers.
