ATLANTA (AP) — Authorities have found 90 guns in carry-on bags at Atlanta's airport security checkpoints so far this year.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports (http://on-ajc.com/1EeoWVC ) that only Dallas/Fort Worth International has seen more guns in carry-on bags this year with 104.
According to Federal Transportation Security Administration numbers, 111 guns were found at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport last year. Most of them were loaded.
TSA officials have found a record 1,855 firearms in carry-on bags nationwide already this year. That's 42 fewer than were found all of last year.
Fliers can travel with guns in their checked luggage as long as they are unloaded, packed in hard-sided, locked containers and declared at check-in.
TSA can impose a fine of up to $11,000 on travelers found to have guns in their carry-ons.
