ATLANTA (AP) - Police say a man accused of opening fire on a police officer on patrol in Georgia has been charged.
Roswell Det. Zachary Frommer said Saturday that 21-year-old Victor Alonzo Majia Nunez is jailed on charges of methamphetamine possession and willful obstruction of law enforcement officers. Frommer says Majia Nunez could face more charges.
The shooting happened in Roswell, a city north of Atlanta, early Friday, just hours after a sniper attack killed five police officers in Dallas.
Frommer says the suspect fired multiple shots, but none hit Officer Brian McKenzie or his patrol car. Police say McKenzie is white. Majia Nunez's race was not immediately clear.
Majia Nunez was apprehended after a short car chase. Police have not released a motive. It is unclear whether he has an attorney.
