TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - People are coming out on Florida Missing Children's Day to help parents prepare in case the worst happens.
WTXL ABC's Jada Williams was live Monday from the State Capitol.
Since 1999, families, lawmakers and law enforcement has observed Florida Missing Children's Day by remembering the kids who are still missing or will never come home and working to keep that number from growing.
Monday many will come together at the Capitol Courtyard, including Scent Evidence K9. Scent Evidence works to bring back missing people as quickly as possible.
Workers will be handing out kits to parents to help provide them with an unaltered scent that can be used to help speed the locating process up. Those kits also come with a book to help make having the safety talk with small children even easier.
Paul Coley, the Scent Evidence K9 CEO, said that It just really softens the approach to somwhat of a scary subject for a lot of parents, but its very much needed. An Awareness to world that we live in and a way to make parents and children safer in our community today."
Research shows that if the collected sample isn't tampered with, it could last up to 10 years. But Coley says he believes it lasts even longer.
Scent Evidence K9 and other vendors will be at the Capitol Courtyard from 10 until noon Monday.
