TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The F.I.T., or Families in Transition program, is making sure students that lack fixed, regular, or adequate housing are able to stay busy this summer, thanks to a donation from a local business.

The program provides services to ensure students are academically successful in school, like after hour tutoring as well as other necessities like clothes, school supplies and transportation.

F.I.T. is federally funded through a grant from the Department of Education, but the money is only allotted throughout the school year. That's why Dale Earnhardt Junior Chevrolet made a $50,000 donation to the program.

Thanks to the grant, F.I.T. students can take part in summer activities like camps and field trips.

"They're all going to the City of Tallahassee camps, they have various things like swim days," explains Project Coordinator Alison Davidson, "so we made sure they all had swimsuits and sneakers, and the older kids get to go on a field trip every Friday. It's getting them an experience that all kids take for granted, that they don't realize that there is a cost with that."

Anyone who feels as though their family meets the criteria for the F.I.T. program, go to LeonCountyFL.gov and fill out the student residency form for further information.
