MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) - Some seniors and low-income families in Midway will soon call a new place home thanks to a statewide grant.

On Thursday the city is hosting a special meeting to help get the project going.

WTXL's Jada Williams provided details about the meeting.

The special meeting aims to finalize plans such as settling on the contractor that will build new homes for the grant recipients.

The Florida Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Program funds tearing down homes and rebuilding new and improved homes in the spot.

One such home belongs to Reginald Chandler, who says that being able to get a new home shows him that Midway cares about the people. He can't contain his excitement.

He'll be receiving a new two bedroom home right where his current home stands.

Chandler says the work starts as soon as they hire a contractor but there is no timeline on when the home will be completed.
