Tallahassee, Fla. (WTXL) - Congressional candidate Gwen Graham has picked up a key endorsement in her campaign.

The Blue Dog Coalition – a group of independent minded, fiscally conservative Democrats has backed her candidacy.

“I’m honored to receive the endorsement from the Blue Dog Democrats who share my commitment to North Florida values: fiscal conservatism, making government do more with less, and bringing folks together to solve problems that matter instead of focusing on issues that divide us,” said Graham.

Blue Dog membership was nearly cut in half again for the 113th Congress. Of the 27 Blue Dogs, 3 resigned (Giffords, Cardoza and Harman), while 10 chose not to run for re-election or were defeated. Of the remaining 14 members Adam Schiff left the coalition, but Pete Gallego (Texas), Kyrsten Sinema (Arizona), Ron Barber (Arizona), Nick Rahall (West Virginia), Dan Lipinski (Illinois), and Cheri Bustos (Illinois) joined them for the 113th Congress.

The group hopes to bring in more members to get their agendas through in the next congressional class.

“These are the kind of commonsense principles that my family and North Floridians practice in their lives every day -- but they are sorely missing in Washington. Gwen's experience bringing people together to solve difficult problems for the common good makes her a perfect fit for the Blue Dogs, and we are proud to give her our full endorsement today,” said Congressman John Barrow, Blue Dog Co-Chair.

"The Blue Dogs firmly believe that Members of Congress must be willing to sit down with the other side and bring an independent voice to the discussion. Gwen will do both of those things."
