LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Leon County Schools achieved an all-time high percentage of students graduating in the 2017-18 school year.
The Florida Department of Education released the 2017-2018 graduation rates and Leon County Schools achieved an all-time high percentage of students graduating at 93 percent.
“The overall health of any school system is greatly determined by the number of students who are meeting state standards and graduating from high school. Yesterday, the Florida Department of Education announced that Leon County Schools graduation rate increased to a historic mark of 93 percent making our district one of the healthiest school systems in the country,” said Superintendent of Leon Schools Rocky Hanna.
Leon Schools continue to outperform the state, this year by 7 percentage points. Leon Schools rank number 1 out of medium and large sized districts.
The district increased the graduation rate in all sub-groups, of specific note was an increase of 8 percentage points among African-American students, also at an all-time high at 89 percent.
“More young people than ever before in Leon County are on the path to academic success. This historic level of achievement would not be possible without the tremendous amount of hard work from our teachers, administrators, guidance counselors, parents and students," said Leon County Schools Superintendent Rocky Hanna. "This is a great moment, not just for our school district, but our entire community."
