GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WTXL) - An advocacy group is planning to hold a rally at the University of Florida in protest of fees for graduate assistants.

United Faculty of Florida-Graduate Assistants United will hold a rally on Thursday, March 13 outside Tigert Hall on the campus of the University of Florida, to protest fees for graduate assistants.  The rally will be attended by members from the Florida State University, University of Florida, and University of South Florida chapters.

The group says graduate assistants are charged unfair fees by the institutions they serve.  Organizers say a graduate assistant taking 12 credit hours at Florida State University would pay approximately $900 per semester in fees.  This amount is roughly 20 percent of the 10 hour per week minimum stipend of $4400.
