TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida Gov. Rick Scott is going to avoid testifying for now in a bitter public records lawsuit.
Scott was scheduled to give a deposition this Friday over private Google email accounts set up by the governor and two former aides. A Tallahassee attorney wants information about the accounts that he says were used by the Scott administration to sidestep the state's open records law.
Scott's private attorneys in California are fighting the request to have the governor testify days before the election. A spokesman for Scott said Wednesday that the deposition would not take place as scheduled.
Attorney Steven Andrews wants information on when the Google accounts were established and by whom. A Florida judge sided with Andrews, but Scott hired lawyers to block the release of the information.
Andrews is suing over records related to a dispute over land near the governor's mansion.
