TALLAHASSEE Fla.-- Governor Rick Scott was in Tampa Monday highlighting efforts to fight human trafficking, in the Florida First Budget.

That includes 6.8 million dollars for safe homes and service providers across the state for victims of the crime.

Seven safe homes in all will receive the funding.

Governor Scott also recently signed legislation which establishes harsher penalties for human traffickers and protects victimized children from being convicted for criminal charges.

According to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center, there have been 453 calls to the Florida Human Trafficking hotline so far this year, with 136 cases reported.
