TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - On Friday, Governor Scott announced the appointment of Undersheriff Michael Wood as Leon County Sheriff.

Governor Scott says that “Undersheriff Michael Wood’s three decades of law enforcement experience will allow him, and the entire Leon County Sheriff’s Office, to continue the legacy of Sheriff Larry Campbell, who was a true law enforcement hero."

Sheriff Campbell died in December, after battling cancer. After Campbell's passing, Major Robert D. Swearingen became the Interim Leon County Sheriff.

Wood is 55 years old and has been with the Leon County Sheriff's Office for 31 years. His term begins Friday and ends January 2, 2017.
