Tallahassee, Fla. (WTXL) -- Governor Rick Scott, along with state and local emergency management officials joined together to mark the beginning of the 2014 hurricane season.
Governor Scott says he is encouraging every family to have a plan and to fully prepare for the upcoming hurricane season.
He also said that preparations should be a priority now before it's too late and it is critical to keep outside family members informed on where each family plans to go, should they need to evacuate.
During the news conference, Governor Scott said, "while it has been ten years since the 2004 Hurricane Season where Florida was hit by four different storms, we know it only takes one to devastate a community."
Hurricane preparedness is a cause the governor is very committed too and recently signed the hurricane supply sales tax holiday into law. The new law allows the tax-free purchase of key hurricane preparedness items between May 31 and June 8.
