WASHINGTON (WTXL) - Gov. Ron DeSantis, along with Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio, met at the White House Tuesday to urge President Trump to apply pressure on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
The trio are urging the President to recognize Juan Guaido as Venezuela's new interim president.
Senator Scott says socialism in Venezuela has left it without food, gas and medicine and adds that millions of people have left the country.
"I think now is the moment where leadership can really make a difference for the people of Venezuela," DeSantis said, "and that's very resonate in Florida. We have the highest number of Venezualans here in Florida."
Venezuelan opposition leaders are calling for nationwide protests Thursday.
The once-wealthy oil nation is sliding into a deepening political and economic crisis.
DeSantis also urged the president to put more pressure on Cuba, saying "Cuba's the cancer leading to a lot of the problems we see in Latin America."
