ATLANTA, Ga. (WTXL) -- Govenor Nathan Deal signs an executive order this week that would implement ban the box hiring policies for state jobs.

In the order, Deal says people with criminal records suffer from discrimination in many areas of life, including housing, education, and employment, and that about 97% of those sentenced to time in prison will eventually return to society.

About 13,000 offenders re-enter the community every month without employment.

Georgia will now be the first state in the south to implement the fair hiring practice policy, joining 13 others.
