TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Gov. Rick Scott is appointing a friend and former banking regulator to the state board that oversees Florida's education system.

Scott on Friday announced that former Naples state legislator Tom Grady will join the State Board of Education. That's the board that hires the education commissioner and is responsible for setting education policy for the state's public schools.

Grady was appointed commissioner of the Office of Financial Regulation in 2011. Grady was then named interim president of Citizens Property Insurance in 2012 but the board that oversees the insurer did not pick him to become the permanent leader.

Grady's spending and travel habits came under scrutiny shortly after he left his public jobs. Scott's chief inspector general did a review of Citizens travel costs that showed Grady took a limousine from his house to the airport.
