TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Gov. Rick Scott said his 2018-2019 budget proposal will include $63 million for teacher supply grants.

Teachers use the grants to buy classroom supplies.

His proposal is an increase of nearly $18 million, or $100 additional dollars per teacher.

Now Florida teachers receive $250 annually for classroom supplies. Scott's proposal would increase the funding to $350 annually.

"Far too often, teachers are forced to reach into their own pockets to buy supplies for their classrooms," Scott said, "and I am proud to propose additional money for this critical program."
