TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The City of Tallahassee is accepting applications after city commissioner Scott Maddox was suspended by Governor Rick Scott.

Mayor John Dailey explained the process the city will take for getting a new city commissioner. They say they will be accepting applications immediately.

City officials say seat 1, Maddox's seat, has been vacated following his suspension by Gov. Rick Scott. Earlier Wednesday, the news broke that Maddox had been indicted on 44 federal racketeering charges

The vacant seat must be temporarily filled within 20 days, with the selected candidate serving either through the remainder of the seat's term, Nov. 16, 2020, or until Maddox is able to return to service.

If they don't come to an agreement, the governor will fill the vacancy.

Qualified applicants (i.e., registered voters residing within the City limits) can apply to fill the Commission seat on an interim basis by submitting a resume and cover letter for consideration.

Applications can be submitted via:

  • Hand delivery to the Office of the City Treasurer-Clerk at City Hall
