TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Governor Ron DeSantis proposed a $120 million budget increase to cover inmates' health care for next year.

The proposal would provide better treatment for inmates with Hepatitis C, disabilities, and mental illness.

Many therapists agree this is a great step forward because it could change the inmates life.

"So many of these inmates do not know what they have and once you go into a system and if you can be diagnosed and if you can be treated then the idea of going back into the system once you've gotten out," said Family Therapist Jane Marks. "I mean its a game changer to provide these kinds of services."

The proposal will be considered in the next legislative session starting March 5.
