TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - A top Republican legislator is accusing a fellow senator of flouting a state law that requires a legislator to live in their district.
Sen. Jack Latvala, R-Clearwater, is raising questions about where Sen. Maria Sachs, D-Delray Beach, actually lives.
Latvala on Monday grilled a member of the Florida Elections Commission about it because Barbra Stern is listed as a co-owner of a condo that Sachs lists as her official residence. Stern, however, said that her mother, Judy Stern, is the one who pays the bills and collects the rent.
After the meeting Latvala told a reporter, "I'll kiss your feet if she spent one night in that condominium."
Sachs in a statement said that she has fully met the requirements for legal residency in her district.
