Good Samaritan's Car Hit by Train while Helping Another Car Stopped on Tracks

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - Valdosta Police say that a Good Samaritan's car was hit by a train while they were tying to help another car that ran out of gas on the train tracks. 

The Valdosta Police Department said that on Thursday around 8:15 a.m., they, Valdosta firefighters, and EMS were called to the 300 block of South Fry Street about a report that a car was hit by a train.

Officers on scene were told that a car was traveling south of Fry Street when it ran out of gas on the train tracks. 

They said that another car stopped and a citizen tried to help the stranded driver. While trying to help them, a train began coming toward them.

VPD said that they were able to get the car out the way but when the Good Samaritan got into his car to get it out of the way, the train hit the front of his car, causing moderate damage. 

They said that the Good Samaritan and the passenger in the car with them suffered minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital.

The accident is still under investigation.
