JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - An Arkansas business offers a unique send-off for those who love the outdoors.

Instead of traditional caskets, Glory Boats builds what they call “vessels to convey the mortal remains of outdoors enthusiasts to that glorious final harbor.”

The caskets, which the Little Rock company says are compatible with standard burial vaults, look like little Jon boats.

The owner, Joel Schmidt, stated on the company’s website that the idea came about when his 74-year-old dad was in the hospital recovering from a “nasty fall” off a ladder.

While his father lay in the emergency room, Schmidt began asking him what were his final wishes.

At one point during the conversation, Schmidt told his dad, “If you hadn’t told me what you wanted, I might have just buried you in your fishing boat.”

The idea stuck.

Priced at $2,800, Glory Boats offers three models: Woodland Camo, Marsh Grass, and Pink Camo.
