CRESTVIEW, Fla. (AP) — Four teenage girls are charged in an escape plot from a juvenile detention facility in the Florida Panhandle.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office reports that the girls — who range in age from 13 to 17 — attempted to incite a riot and organize an escape late Sunday.
The teens are accused of physical battery and verbal use against staff at the Gulf Coast Treatment Center in Crestview.
The sheriff's office says the teens broke through the center's secure door and fled but were later arrested by deputies.
The girls face charges of causing a riot in a detention facility, battery on detention staff, criminal mischief over $1000 and escape from a residential commitment facility.
