TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - There is one moment from Tuesday's Inaugural events that raised some eyebrows among the public.

Reverend R.B. Holmes is the leader of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church  Tallahassee and he was an outspoken supporter of the Andrew Gillum campaign.

Still, he gave the opening blessing at the Prayer Breakfast on Tuesday.

Throughout the 2018 election season, Reverend Dr. R.B Holmes supported Democratic candidate Andrew Gillum. However, when he was asked to pray at DeSantis's breakfast Tuesday, there wasn't a moment of hesitation.

"He is our governor. He's not just the governor of one side of town. He is the governor of everyone," said Reverend Holmes. "I think it's important for me as a Christian, a person of great faith, and a person who loves our great state of Florida to support this governor. We can disagree without being disagreeable."

At the root of his decision was his love for his home state and a motivation to continue to see it grow.

"It's a part of patriotism. Your person may not have won, but he's the governor now. He has a promising future. Governor DeSantis has a bold vision," said Reverend Holmes.

He also said now is the time for everyone to put away their differences and come together as one state.

Unity is the goal for Reverend Holmes and he has a plan to make that happen. He believes that the power of prayer is the only way to help move Florida forward.
