TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - We heard from city commissioner Gil Ziffer Tuesday, after he announced Monday that his name will no longer be on the ballot for the next mayor of Tallahassee.

Ziffer says he has served the city of Tallahassee for nine years and has enjoyed every minute however he believes it's time for him to spend more time with his loved ones and believes new leadership is need in the Capital City.

"It's time for me to spend more time with my grandkids and also see what else is out their for me," said Ziffer. "I know it's not an elected office, but I'm not sure where it will go but I'll find out. There are other people in this city that can serve with a new idea and a new way of looking at things and it's time for me to make room for them."

Ziffer also stated he hopes senator Bill Mumford joins the mayoral race. The commissioner believes Mumford is qualified and is the right person Tallahassee needs.
