TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Tuesday is National Check the Chip Day for pet owners.
The day was originally used as an annual check up on the microchip to see how your pet was reacting to it.
The microchip helps owners find their pet if it gets lost or to check up on their location. Many veterinarians and other animal health individuals use this day as a great reason to do a basic check up.
Officials with Tallahassee Animal Services stopped by to tell us more.
"It's really important to make sure that that's done because that number is gonna link to the owners information," said Grayson Walters. "Their address, their phone number and when you're talking about it in context with shelters and when those animals sometimes end up with us even if it's on accident we want to get those animals back with an owner immediately."
Officials also say to use today to go in for a test to make sure all the information connected to it is correct.
